SPECgpc – Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation – Benchmarks

Another very useful benchmark software, with a free non commercial use version.

“The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) is a non-profit corporation formed to establish, maintain and endorse standardized benchmarks and tools to evaluate performance and energy efficiency for the newest generation of computing systems. SPEC develops benchmark suites and also reviews and publishes submitted results from our member organizations and other benchmark licensees.”

Some versions require you to have Maya, 3DS Max installed. The version l use is below. 17Gb –  Click here to download it.

I will post my results soon.

Note – the download is 17Gb and this takes a while to install, and this extracts to about 60Gb as shown below.

Ready to run this!

Result

Click here for the full result as a PDF file.

I will update/compare this when l do eventually get an RTX  3080 GPU

Results from a Lenovo P72 Workstation Laptop

CrystalDiskMark 8.0 Benchmark

Whatever PC computing you do, irrespective of how powerful your PC’s motherboard or CPU is, it depends on how fast external data can be read to or from your secondary storage devices, eg internal hard disks, SSD drives, M.2 drives , SD cards etc.

Below is a basic comparative test l ran against several storage devices available to me on my main workstation. Motherboard: MSI 570 Creative – running the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor, using CrystalDiskMark free software – x64 – click here to download it.

To save space on this due to some large video/photo, 3D rendering/ processing l do – once l am done working on a project with data files on this very fast drive,  l move/archive the files l dont need from this prime drive to other much slower drives.

Tests were done on drives l own, just 2 test iterations, 1Gb test setting – the same test on each drive to keep things simple – as shown in screenshots.

M.2 Rocket 1tb Sabrent NVMe 4.0 Gen4 drive – my current main OS and applications drive [the difference/reason is clear]

M.2 Rocket 512Gb Sabrient drive [first Sabrient M2 l got]

Samsung Evo 1Tb SSD

WD Blue Portable Drive – 500Gb

Western Digital Black – 1Tb – Performance HDD

MicroSD 64Gb Samsung Evo

MicroSD 64Gb Sandisk Extreme PLUS

Hope this helps!  – Comments, questions, email me.

DEEP LEARNING WITH PYTORCH

Click here for the source website.

I use Anaconda [individual edition] platform for data analysis. Click here for their website and program download.

Below is from wikipedia.

PyTorch is an open source machine learning library based on the Torch library,[3][4][5] used for applications such as computer vision and natural language processing,[6] primarily developed by Facebook‘s AI Research lab (FAIR).[7][8][9] It is free and open-source software released under the Modified BSD license. Although the Python interface is more polished and the primary focus of development, PyTorch also has a C++ interface.[10]

A number of pieces of Deep Learning software are built on top of PyTorch, including Tesla Autopilot[11]Uber‘s Pyro,[12] HuggingFace’s Transformers,[13] PyTorch Lightning[14][15], and Catalyst.[16][17]

Hike – Nov 7th 2020 – Videos

Videos shot using a DJI Spark drone, GoPro Hero8 Black, Cellphone – Google Pixel 4 XL and Canon EOS RP, while on a hike of about 4 miles to “God’s thumb” – The Knoll Loop, in Lincoln City, Oregon

This is the first time based on an online article l first transcoded each of the videos first to Apple ProRes usning Adobe Media Encoder [trial version], to fill in the “gaps” – from compressed drone/gopro/Pixel4XL video clips.

Music applied [l made this overshadow the original video clips sound tracks]:
“I Move On” used in Blender’s Sintel
Jan Morgenstern/Performed by Helena Fix – released under Creative Common License  – Thanks!

Enjoy!
